One day at a time
Today I am reminded that everything that can be achieved, can only ever be achieved - one day at a time. The advice isn't mine - it comes from the AA - and it is something I regularly come back to and reflect upon when life gets difficult.
When someone is addicted to alcohol, and is desperately trying to give it up for the rest of their life, it can sometimes be incredibly daunting to think in those time scales. But thinking in terms of not drinking (alcohol) for a day is a much more practical target. Sometimes - when things get really tough - a day can be too long, so focussing on smaller slices of time such as the next 10 minutes might be the more approachable timescale.
This advice has been battle tested over many years by many thousands of people. I have personally found it very useful whenever adversity rears its ugly head - I hope you will too.
